Description |
Parent-Aide volunteers work towards the safety and well-being of children and youth by providing support, friendship, and encouragement to an isolated parent. They role model to enhance parenting and coping skills, assist with connecting to community resources, and in building social networks. Parent-Aide volunteers help to reduce the feeling of isolation. This may be helping a parent or gardian navigate signing their child up for sports or music lessons, creating a menu plan together and grocery shopping, or researching support groups together. Volunteers provide one to one support, guidance and a listening ear to a parent/guardian. Provide compassion and emotional support and assist the parent with developing daily activity skills. Commitment: Approximately 2-3 hours, weekly for a minimum of 8 months. Days of the week and times are flexible based on the volunteer’s availability and needs of the parent. You would be a good fit for this role if you: • Have good interpersonal and listening skills • Understand the impact of isolation and poverty on motivation • Patient and have empathy for others and are non-judgmental • Have knowledge of community resources and ability to access them • Accepting of different lifestyles, values, and cultures • Understanding that last minute changes or cancelations can occur for a variety of reasons • Welcoming and passionate about supporting family wellbeing in our community • Have problem solving skills Get your application started.
