Description |
Volunteer as a virtual tutor with United for Literacy Guelph with our virtual youth (grades 9-12) educational support program in partnership with Immigrant Services Guelph-Wellington. Our dedicated team of volunteer tutors work with newcomer youth on a weekly basis, helping them with their language and numeracy development and engaging in educational games and activities. Advanced math and science knowledge is not required. Virtual tutor training is provided, and no previous tutoring experience is necessary. Must be 18+ in order to apply for this position. Our spring virtual high school newcomer homework support program (grades 9-12) will run on Wednesday afternoons from 5:00pm-6:15pm from May 7-Jun. 18 (7 weeks) online via Zoom. This is great for individuals who: -Are looking to add to their resume or future MA applications -Want experience volunteering with diverse populations -Seek to explore and experience the Guelph community -Want to build teaching, empathy, creativity, organization and management skills -Look to meet new people, build strong relationships and be a valued member of a team Those interested are encouraged to submit a volunteer inquiry form (https://www.unitedforliteracy.ca/Volunteer/Program-Volunteers) and a United for Literacy representative will follow up regarding next steps in our volunteer tutor application process. |

Training Details | Orientation - Mandatory one-hour online orientation modules (to be completed prior to the start of program) ; Tutor training is also required - Mandatory online Zoom virtual tutor training session to be held the week of April 28 (dates TBD). |
Working Conditions | Must have access to reliable internet and a Zoom-compatible device (laptop or tablet).All volunteers are expected to participate in a quiet, private location. |
