Position Outreach and Special Events Voluntee - Children's Reading Room
Location 210 Silvercreek Pkwy N Guelph Ontario N1H 7P8 (located at the back of All Saints Church)
Impact Statement By volunteering at the Children’s Reading Room (CRR), you are contributing to family literacy enhancement in Guelph. By offering free children’s books for families to keep and free literacy-focused community programs, the CRR removes significant barriers to book ownership and fosters a special relationship with books, reading and community kinship.

Our Mission Statement: Through engagement with families in an inclusive community space and distribution of children’s books free of charge, our mission is to enhance literacy skills, family wellness and promote a lifelong love of reading!
Description This role entails attending and representing the CRR at special events in the community. The duties include setting up a table, books, portable book display, signage, program flyers and tote bag display. People who donate $25 or more can choose a tote bag and fill it with five books. Payment can be made with cash, e-transfer to info@childrensreadingroom.org (auto deposit enabled) or PayPal (through website or scan of QR code). Throughout the event, Outreach and Special Events Volunteers chat with people about the CRR, answer questions and offer a program flyer. At times, families need help selecting books (sometimes kids ask for something specific, e.g., dinosaurs). At the end of the event, volunteers are asked to bring back the remaining books and other items to the CRR.
