| Description | Yorklands Green Hub is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Board of Directors. As a Board member, you will play a key role in guiding the organization's strategic direction, supporting environmental education programs, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering community partnerships. Responsibilities include attending monthly Board meetings, contributing to fundraising efforts, and providing governance oversight to ensure the successful operation and growth of our initiatives. We welcome individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills, particularly those with experience in finance, community outreach, education, or environmental advocacy. 1. Comprehensive Orientation: New Directors will participate in an onboarding session to gain a clear understanding of Yorklands' mission, values, and current initiatives. This session will cover key organizational priorities, strategic goals, and governance responsibilities. 2. Board Manual: Each new member will receive a digital or printed Board Manual, which includes: -Yorklands Green Hub's mission, vision, and values -Strategic plan and key priorities -Governance structure and Board roles -Policies and procedures, including financial oversight -Meeting schedules, agendas, and minutes templates -Contact information for Board members and key stakeholders -Volunteer and program information, including Ten Tall Trees and environmental outreach events 3. Mentorship Program: Mentor Assignment: New Directors will be paired with a seasoned Board member to serve as a mentor during their first 3-6 months. Regular Check-Ins: Mentors and mentees will meet monthly to discuss governance, organizational insights, and address any questions. Shadowing Opportunities: New members may shadow committee meetings or attend community events with their mentor for deeper engagement. 4. Ongoing Training and Professional Development: Bi-annual workshops on topics such as financial literacy, board governance, and cultural sensitivity Access to online learning materials and webinars related to environmental advocacy and nonprofit management This structured approach ensures new Directors are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to Yorklands Green Hub while fostering leadership development and effective governance practices. |
