Impact Statement Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Guelph General Hospital (GGH). Please plan ahead and apply several months before you hope to begin volunteering. The process to become a volunteer has several steps, which take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete after a successful interview. These steps are in place to ensure that each volunteer is safe to be in a hospital environment and has the appropriate training for each volunteer role.
Description The G.G.H. Boutique’s mission is to generate maximum amount of profit through a sound retailing effort while maintaining a high level of customer service. The main focus of the Boutique Volunteer is to provide exceptional customer service by knowing the products and their prices, creating a welcoming environment and keeping the shop stocked and clean. Each volunteer will be directly responsible to the Retail Manager.

Requirements to Volunteer:
• complete interview
• have references checked
• Applicants 18 years of age and older must submit a current (dated within 6 months of application) Police Vulnerable Sector Check after the interview
• updated health information and 2 step TB test
• purchase uniform and obtain ID badge
• sign and agree to uphold the confidentiality policy of Guelph General Hospital
• complete orientation and training

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to re-stock displays in the shop
• Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time

Emotional Requirements:
• Ability to handle stressful times, such as sales, holidays, emotional customers etc.

• Excellent customer service skills
• Dependable, punctual
• Comfortable working as part of a team
• Willing to take the initiative to get things done
• 15 years of age or older

Commitment:
• Minimum commitment of one year
• Minimum commitment of one scheduled shift every week
• Come in for your shift on a weekly basis. First shifts of the day must come 15 minutes early in order to set up. Last shifts of the day must stay 15-30 minutes later to properly close the store.
• If you are going to be away for more than 4 weeks, contact the Retail Manager.
• It is your responsibility to get coverage for your shifts


Responsibilities (all shifts):
• Process sales (cash, credit card, debit)
• Suggest gift ideas if asked, and have an idea of the price range of items
• Re-arrange items on display once you sell them
• All shifts are to dust all displays and ensure that cards are neat and in the appropriate spots on a daily basis
• Work with the rest of the boutique team (other shop volunteers, retail manager) to keep the shop running as efficiently as possibly.
• At the request of the Retail Manager, mark down items for sale
• Record any customer complaints/concerns/compliments that require follow-up from the Retail Manager
• Before you count your float make sure that the shift has closed off the night before. If not you will have to close off the previous night’s shift
• Count your float and cash at beginning and end of your shift

Monday 10-1 shift
• Place flower order with Floral Images if needed

Safety Responsibilities
All employees and volunteers are responsible for demonstrating their responsibility and commitment to patient and staff safety by complying with all Guelph General Hospital policies and procedures related to staff and patient safety, including the identification of near misses or actual incidents where patient or staff safety are at risk. Examples include, but are not limited to:
• Incident reporting of all workplace injuries, occupational illness and/or exposures to your Director and Employee Health Services
• Actively following Infection Control and Practice guidelines, including hand hygiene practices, routine practices i.e. utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Practicing WHMIS safety guidelines
• Adhering to the professional standards of your applicable college/licensing body/registration or professional association
• Familiarity with the Health and Safety policies such as Safe Footwear Policy, Fingernail Policy, Latex Policy, Scent Reduction Policy and Smart Moves policies
• Completing all mandatory eLearning
• Complying with Respirator Mast Fit regulation
