Description |
Developed to address the needs of newcomer children and youth in Guelph & Wellington County, United for Literacy virtual tutors work 1:1 or 1:2 via Zoom helping with math, science, reading & writing. In partnership with Immigrant Services Guelph-Wellington, this virtual newcomer learning program will involve 10-12 registered learners paired with an individual tutor who will support them with supplementary educational and ESL literacy support. Each session will end with a language-based game facilitated in the larger group. This spring, United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College) and Immigrant Services Guelph-Wellington will run virtual newcomer homework support programs on Monday afternoons from 5:00pm-6:15pm (learners in grades 1-4) from May 5-Jun. 23 (no program May 19) and Tuesdays from 5:00pm-6:15pm (learners in grades 5-8) from May 6-Jun. 17. Volunteer tutors are only asked to support one program/week but are welcome to support both if their schedule allows. Those who are interested are encouraged to submit a volunteer inquiry form (https://www.unitedforliteracy.ca/Volunteer/Program-Volunteers) and a United for Literacy representative will follow up shortly with information about next steps in our volunteer onboarding process. |
