Location | 210 Silvercreek Parkway North, Guelph, ON, Canada |
Impact Statement |
By volunteering at the Children’s Reading Room (CRR), you are contributing to family literacy enhancement in Guelph. By offering free children’s books for families to keep and free literacy-focused community programs, the CRR removes significant barriers to book ownership and fosters a special relationship with books, reading and community kinship. Our Mission Statement: Through engagement with families in an inclusive community space and distribution of children’s books free of charge, our mission is to enhance literacy skills, family wellness and promote a lifelong love of reading! |
Description | The CRR’s Book Nook program broadens the scope of the organization’s work by setting up attractive shelves of books in community centres around the city. A CRR Book Nook is a low-rise bookshelf that displays children’s books forward-facing and is placed anywhere visible and accessible for children and families to see and select books. This approach extends accessibility to high-quality children's books to other neighbourhoods. There are 15 CRR Book Nooks in Guelph, and the Book Nook Caretaker would be responsible for checking in with each Book Nook Partner, picking up books from CRR’s location, delivering books to partnering organizations, and supplying them with outreach flyers and bookmarks. |
