Position Summer Day Camp Volunteers - City of Guelph Summer Day Camps

To be friendly, enthusiastic and enjoy being in a camp day setting interacting and encouraging children to participate with the day to day activities, games and during the scheduled swim time dependent on the camp location.
Description 1. Show a high level of energy, enthusiasm and contribute as a team member
2. Actively participate and assist with games, songs and activities (preparing crafts/activity stations, assist in facilitating songs)
3. Interact with campers during lunch and snack times
4. Assist with the transitions of activities (tidying up camp space, guiding campers to a new activity)
5. Be friendly and encouraging to all camp participants, leaders, co-volunteers and lifeguards
6. Support and assist the camp staff during all activities
7. Work cooperatively with camp staff and co-volunteers throughout the volunteer placement
8. Be onsite and be prepared to start your shift on time
9. Provide understanding and encouragement to each participant
10. Take appropriate precautions to ensure the well-being and safety of all participants
11. Wear volunteer shirt during camp hours and a singlet with appropriate swim attire when in the water (West End and Victoria Road locations)
12. Remain within arm’s length of campers assigned to you (2:1 camper to volunteer ration in pool/pool area) (West End and Victoria Road locations)
13. Ensure use of appropriate behaviour and language at all times
14. Communicate any questions, concerns, or problems that arise within camp with the Camp Team Leader
15. Be prepared for indoor and outdoor activities (sunscreen, bug repellent, hat, proper footware, pants/shorts, sunglasses)
16. Record your volunteer hours in the Volgistics data base
17. Complete an exit evaluation on completion of volunteer position

Training Details • Complete online training and in person orientation
• Read, know and understand the volunteer guidelines, policies and procedures and become familiar with the Volunteer Handbook
Working Conditions indoors and outdoors; working with children and co-volunteering with youth; camp setting; active.
