Impact Statement As our Treasurer and board member, you will play a key role in ensuring the Eden Mills Writers' Festival's growth and ongoing success. You will contribute to the presentation of entertaining, inclusive and enlightening programming for all ages that strives to create a community that connects with open hearts and open minds.

By supporting our efforts to bring our community Canada's finest established authors and emerging talents, as well as the diverse voices that make up our national identity, you will help make possible literary experiences that are usually only available in larger urban centres.
Description The Treasurer is expected to fulfill the following duties:

Oversee the festival’s financial matters
• Working closely with staff (Artistic Director and Festival Manager), develop and present the festival’s annual budget.
• Working with the bookkeeper, present financial and budget updates to the board of directors at monthly board meetings.
• Ensure that proper accounts and records are kept, ensuring financial resources are spent and invested in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
• Act as a countersignatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds.
• Be aware of CRA policies/regulatory requirements with respect to financial compliance.
• Ensure the financial components of the T3010B Information Return are completed in an accurate and timely manner.

Assume a leadership role on board committee or initiatives related to financial matters
• Develop and implement festival financial policies, reserves, and investment policies.
• Chair any finance committee in line with standing orders and terms of reference, and report back to the board of directors.
• Advise on the festival’s funding and revenue generation models, and the financial implications of the festival’s strategic plan.
• Contribute to the fundraising strategy of the organization.
• Ensure that the festival’s annual accounts are compliant with the CRA guidelines.
• Liaise with the festival’s auditor, ensuring audits are completed in a timely manner.

Authority

The Treasurer provides oversight and direction to the bookkeeper and is responsible for the establishment of day-to-day accounting and financial practices to ensure clarity about their respective roles, responsibilities, and communications expectations.

Training Details Orientation will be provided by retiring Treasurer. (Retiring Treasurer has held the position for the past 12 years.)
Working Conditions Monthly board and committee meetings are held in person with a virtual option.
Time commitment: Twelve hours per month (board and committee meetings, meeting and report preparation)
You are also expected to attend events - virtual and in-person - to develop an understanding and appreciation for our programming and to support the Board in developing supporter and donor relationships.

Time Detail Board meetings are held at 7 pm on the second Wednesday of the month - in-person at festival offices (19 Cedar St, Eden Mills) or alternatively via Zoom.
