Impact Statement Compass is recruiting skilled and compassionate volunteers to join our Telephone Support (TS) Team. Volunteers involved in the TS team will assume the responsibility of providing outbound calls to clients, with the goal of providing emotional support to members of the Guelph-Wellington Community. TS volunteers will start in the program by completing social calls, safety/wellness checks, and/or providing medication reminders to isolated and distressed individuals before having the option to gain additional training and supporting our Distress Lines.
Description •Provide outbound calls to clients through the TeleConnect (TC) program
•TS volunteers will complete safety/wellness checks, provide medication reminders, and engage in social conversations
•Social calls might include conversations about daily plans, sharing stories with clients, and exploring action plans for crisis intervention
•Utilize a strengths-based, solution-focused approach
•Callers on the distress line may experience suicidal ideation or have intentions of harming themselves/another
•May need to provide external resources and referrals
•Staff will be available during shifts should any concerns arise
Training Details After completing the application, self-learning training modules and quizzes are made available to the applicant. Once completed, they will then be invited to attend the group training that consists of role plays and scenario questions. Upon the completion of the group training, volunteers will complete a 1:1 shadow shift with a TS staff, then, they may begin scheduling shifts independently.
Working Conditions Must have access to secure and reliable internet connection during shifts and access to a private setting where calls can be completed without distraction

Time Detail The hours of operation are from 8am-10pm, 7 days per week. Volunteers are able to select their own shifts (based on availability).
