Seeds of Diversity is a nationally-incorporated charity that engages Canadians to secure the future of food production and adapt Canadian food systems to new challenges of the next century. Through education and hands-on skills training, gardeners young and old preserve the biodiversity and sustainability of our agricultural food systems. Youth in Food Systems is a program of Seeds of Diversity that works to support youth in food systems learning, skills development, and agri-food career exploration through several in-person and remote projects across Ontario. |
Description |
We are embarking on Season 4 of the Food Leader Interview Series this year and are looking for Interviewers to lead the project! Our youth Interviewers conduct virtual video interviews with professionals working in Canadian food systems. Our volunteer interviewers are responsible for participating in training, designing interview questions, communicating with their selected Interviewee, setting up their interview, and utilizing Zoom to carry out the (20-30 minute) conversation. Since 2021, our youth Interviewers have carried out 25 video and audio interviews, spotlighting 25 unique and important careers in Canadian food systems. What you’ll gain: - Research and critical thinking skills - Communication skills and abilities with teammates, staff, and food leaders - Leadership development and confidence building - One-on-one and group training in professionalism, communications, interviewing, and more - An opportunity to build and contribute to knowledge sharing about agri-food careers - An opportunity to join a youth-driven organization focused on skill development and peer-to-peer learning Time commitment: Approximately 15-20 hours total commitment over the course of four months. Mandatory training sessions will take place weekly during May and June. Exact days and time to be determined prior to the start of the season. |
Training Details | Group training will involve four sessions focused on skills necessary to successfully plan and carry out an interview with a food leader during summer 2024. Trainings will take place weekly in May/June; exact times TBD. Also available will be peer practice sessions. |
Working Conditions | Remote project. Youth participants should have access to a device and Internet access for onboarding, training sessions, emailing, researching, and to conduct the interview. |
