| Impact Statement | John Howard Society of Waterloo-Wellington (JHSWW) is a community-based charitable organization dedicated to promoting effective, just, and humane responses to crime and its causes. Serving the Waterloo Region and Wellington County, we offer a broad range of programs and services designed to support individuals in achieving meaningful employment, fostering accountability, and encouraging learning. We recognize that crime is influenced by complex interactions between social and community factors, and we work collaboratively with our partners, including community agencies, schools, probation services, police, courts, employers and others, to create safer, more supportive communities. JHSWW has an annual budget of about 3.5M, 40+ staff, approximately 20 volunteers, and placement students from various levels of study. | Description | Applications are currently being accepted for a Director position. The incumbent is an adult with a passion for maintaining healthy and safe community prevention. You are a resident of Waterloo Region or Guelph/Wellington County or have this catchment area as your primary place of employment. You have demonstrated leadership skills and are committed to partnering with the rest of the Board of Directors and the Executive Director to provide excellence in oversight and strategic leadership. An understanding of policy governance models, financial controls, and the non-profit funding context are desirable, but not required. A background in any of the following is an asset: social services, advocacy, human resources/labour relations, finance/accounting, health, or legal. |

The position of Director typically requires 3 hours per month and entails: • Reviewing Board meeting materials • Attending Board meetings typically held virtually at 6pm on weekday evenings. They occur monthly, totalling 8 to 9 sessions per year, with no meetings scheduled during the summer months. • Attending the Annual General Meeting and other JHSWW events • Participating in Board Committee meetings as needed Board members are unpaid volunteers serving three-year terms.
