Children's Reading Room

Children's Reading Room (CRR) is a not-for-profit family resource organization promoting early literacy development and a love of books and reading. Whenever anyone visits the CRR, they leave with a free children's book! It's theirs to keep, read, love, and cherish. There is no need to sign up for a membership or return the books. A welcoming, accessible, and comfortable place where families can socialize, browse books, read to their children, participate in planned literacy-focused activities, and, of course, build their home library! CRR is located at 210 Silvercreek Parkway N in the Onward Willow community - a densely populated area without a public library. In the space, accessible and fun literacy-focused activities for children ages 0-12 years are offered regularly. Designed by two registered early childhood educators, the Children’s Reading Room environment is inclusive and barrier-free. Beyond its new space, the CRR’s ‘Book Nook’ program broadens the scope of the organization’s work by setting up attractive shelves of books in community centres around the city. This approach expands accessibility to high-quality children's books in other high-needs neighbourhoods.
