Guelph Jazz Festival

Entering its 30th Anniversary year in 2023, the Guelph Jazz Festival (GJF) is a non-profit, charitable music presenter based in Guelph, Ontario. The GJF's mandate is to present live creative improvised music in contexts that provide opportunities for all people to engage with it, programming world-class local, regional, national, and international artists from an underrepresented field. The primary strategy to pursue this mandate is the development and delivery of the core activity, the annual four-day festival, the second weekend after Labour Day, that includes ticketed and free concerts in various downtown venues; ‘GJF at Market Square,’ free outdoor programming in downtown Guelph, including the ‘Friday Night Street Music Party’; ‘GJF in the Parks,’ free programming serving neighbourhoods outside the downtown core; ‘GJF Around Town,’ partnerships with local restaurants and bars to present live music; ‘GJF in the Community,’ pairing professional artists with local youth ensembles; and the ‘GJF Colloquium,’ a conference that presents artist talks, interviews, panel discussions, etc., organised in partnership with the University of Guelph. Additionally, when human and financial resources allow, the GJF presents off-season programming, often in collaboration with other Guelph arts organisations.
